For those who don’t know what bouldering is, it’s a type of rock climbing which involves climbing with no ropes, up to a height of around 10 metres or so. Bouldering routes, or ‘problems’ as they are known, include strenuous moves which can be linked together to solve the climbing ‘problem’. As the climber is close to the ground, the moves can be harder to really test technique and strength.
The one in development here at Swinfit is an indoor wall which will simply go from the floor up to the ceiling and make the most of that space. It will include a steep overhanging area on one side, which will really test your core strength, forearm and finger grip as well as your technical abilities and then a small roof section which will lead into a vertical wall above that – this will stop those taller people from reaching straight past those difficult moves.
There will be loads to have a go at for total beginners right the way up to seasoned pros. Bouldering is a fantastic workout both for the mind and the body and is an extremely sociable sport. It is also a great way to get into rock climbing on a smaller scale and is also fantastic training if you already climb.
